Biodiversity Under Threat - Bringing Key Messages to Life

10 May 2019

Nature’s contributions to people are fundamental to our survival and are the foundations of human wellbeing and happiness. As the global population grows, the way we produce food and energy has begun to undermine many of the important contributions that nature provides.

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) launched the world's first Intergovernmental Global Assessment report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services on the 6th of May 2019 at the close of their 7th Plenary Session held in Paris, France. The result of three years of work by more than 150 of the world’s leading experts, the assessment contains the best-available evidence and expert analysis on the current state of nature and the necessary actions required to ensure the wellbeing of our planet and the lives of future generations.

QUO collaborated with IPBES to create a number of videos and digital materials leading up to and through the launch of the Global Assessment. These included animated videos for social media, highlighting key information discussed in the report, as well as a selection of high-quality images, video clips and promotional videos.

Global responses to the assessment were overwhelming, with support from multiple governments, UN agencies and experts in the field. The findings of the report have been deemed both groundbreaking and shocking. News outlets around the world featured the report's key information as a major news story and the Internet was set abuzz with discussions on the information now brought to everyone's attention.

The social media response was exceptionally strong with one of QUO's animated videos accruing just under 500,000 views on Twitter alone within the space of two days through multiple uploads and shares from various organisations and actors across the globe. QUO is incredibly pleased that such important information is now being disseminated and that the materials we created were able to contribute to this. We hope that the momentous success continues until real change is enacted the world over.
